Dental Hygienist Dental Assistant & Dental Hygienist Associate Degree Programs

An associate degree from an accredited educational institution is required to become a dental assistant. Graduates of these programs must pass the Dental Assisting National Board Examination to become Certified Dental Assistants as defined by the Dental Laws of North Carolina.

An associate degree in Dental Hygiene, from a school accredited by the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation, is required in order for a person to practice in a private dental office. Upon successful completion of an associate degree program, a person must be licensed by the state in which they live. This is done by taking the written National Board of Dental Hygiene Examination and the state licensure examination, which include both written and clinical testing. In addition, some states require testing on the legal aspects of dental hygiene practice.
